A forward thinking inclusive, accessible and innovative authority that strives to do the best for the residents and businesses of North East Derbyshire. NEDDC operates four leisure centres offering a range of activities to the local community, including Sharley Park Leisure Centre which is undergoing full refurbishment to become the new Clay Cross Active.
Clay Cross Town Deal
The Government announced that Clay Cross would receive £24.1m of funding to deliver a number of projects contained in the Clay Cross Town Investment Plan. In Clay Cross this means;
- Increasing the skills and productivity of our workforce
- Improving access to a range of high quality jobs and training opportunities
- Improving the environmental quality of the town and town centre

Towns Fund
The scheme is one of five projects that form the Clay Cross Town Deal, a £24.1m scheme funded by the Governments Town’s Fund.
The Towns Fund was announced by the Prime Minister on 27 July 2019 and its key aim is to support 101 towns across the Country to drive economic regeneration and delivery long-term economic and productivity growth. As the accountable body, North East Derbyshire District Council works in partnership with the Clay Cross Town Board to deliver the vision and strategy for Clay Cross Town Deal.
Sport England
Sport England is an arms-length body of government responsible for growing and developing grassroots sport and getting more people active across England. They are contributing £1.9m towards the cost of Clay Cross Active.
Alliance Leisure
Established over 22 years ago, Alliance Leisure Services is the leading ‘Development Partner’ in the leisure industry, and has unrivalled experience in delivering projects, having delivered over 220 projects and facilitated the investment of over £300m into public sector facilities with projects ranging in value from £60,000 to over £30,000,000.
Alliance Leisure are the appointed delivery partner for the UK Leisure Framework which is managed by Denbighshire Leisure.
Hadron Consulting
Hadron Consulting offers specialist Project Management Services for the Property and Construction industry. Specialising in the delivery of sports and leisure facilities, Hadron Consulting delivers exceptional building developments through world class project management services.
Hadron Consulting has been appointed as the Project Manager to deliver the project on behalf of Alliance Leisure and North East Derbyshire District Council from the beginning of the design phase, and will continue to support the project through the construction phase to when the building is opened to the public.
Strategic Leisure
Strategic Leisure Limited (SLL) is a specialist physical activity, sport and leisure consultancy. SLL developed the Insight to inform the development of Clay Cross Active and the revenue modelling supporting its operation. SLL also developed elements of the Towns Fund business case and the successful application to Sport England which helped to secure funding for the project.
Citizens Advice
Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire is an independent charity that is part of the national Citizens Advice network. We believe no one should have to face problems without good quality, free, impartial, confidential and independent advice. That’s why we’re here: to give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.
Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire will be based in the new Clay Cross Active meaning that our admin and front facing services will be together within one building. We will be providing drop in advice sessions on a daily basis plus pre-booked appointments for clients. This will complement our outreach venue work which will continue; in GP surgeries, some libraries and food banks.
Chesterfield Royal Hospital
Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s Community Midwifery Team are proud to be moving to the Sharley Park Leisure Centre. Currently based at the Clay Cross Clinic, the team of Midwives provide antenatal and postnatal care to Women and their families.
The team will consist of Midwives, Midwifery Assistants and Administrative Staff and the new base will provide up to date facilities and easier access for our community. We are looking forward to seeing this develop and will be updating the community when we have more information.
